Social Studies/Inquiry (cultures)

We are learning about other cultures in Te Awa. Today Elias' Mum Shalini came to teach us how to make authentic Italian Pizza. Shalini is from a town in Italy called Gemona. It is in the North of Italy.
Thank you so much for your time Shalini.

Italian Pizza Recipe
350 g of plain flour
1 tsp salt
a swirl of olive oil
210 ml of warm water
2 tsp yeast
2 tsp sugar
oregano
one can of diced tomatoes
mozzarella cheese (grated)
choice of toppings (ham, chorizo, olives)

Mix the flour and salt.
Mix the warm water, yeast and sugar.
Mix the yeast mixture with the flour mixture.
Place in a bowl with a tea towel over it.
Put the bowl in an oven at 50 degrees for 1 and a 1/2 hours or 2 hours (to rise).

When the pizza dough has risen, place in deep dishes (with a generous swirl of olive oil on base of dish).
Add tomatoes, oregano and cheese.
Place in an oven for 10 minutes at 220 degrees.
After 10 minutes add the other topping and place back in the oven for a further 10 minutes.
Enjoy!!!
Thank you Igor and Shalini

  1. Kia ora Te Awa,
It’s me Missy from Te Ngahere. I saw your blog post about ‘social studies/inquiry (cultures)’ and I think it was really cool that Elias’ mum took her time out of her day and taught you all how to make italian pizza. Did everyone in Te Awa enjoy their pizza’s? Once again, thanks Te Awa for posting and can’t wait to see what else you learn.
