Matariki Celebration Day

This morning we gathered at school at 6.30am to look for Matariki stars.

It was a beautiful sunrise. We saw lots of beautiful stars, but we didn't see the Matariki cluster.

Last night Miss Simmonds learnt how to make fried bread with her friend Missy. We will have the bread with soup for lunch today.

We made Matariki kites. We glued lots of beautiful things onto our painted kites (feathers, beads, shells and LOTS of glitter).

Grace was practicing being the teacher.

For lunch we had the fried bread and delicious pumpkin soup. I'm glad to report the bread was a real hit!

  1. Thanks for inviting us to go star gazing. It was lovely to see so many tamariki and their whanau. Great job on the fry bread Miss Simmonds, you'll have to give me a lesson one day.

  2. Hello Te Awa, it’s Angela from Te Ngahere. I really like your blog post about how you went to see the Matariki stars for our Matariki celebration. I like your post because you said what you did throughout the whole day. I also went to see the Matariki stars in the morning and I had lots of fun but I was also very tired because I had to wake up at 5:30 am in the morning.
Great job Miss Simods, your fried bread looked delicious.
What was the best part about your day?
