History

We are learning about what life was like in the past. As part of our learning we visited the Pioneer Village in Kaikohe. We visited a courthouse, a shop and an old school room.

Thank you to all of our parents who were able to help with transport and enjoy the trip with us.

The Pioneer Village, Kaikohe

Mrs Brown was our host. This is us in the courthouse, learning about local history. . .

We learnt that the first game of cricket ever played in New Zealand was played in Paihia.

Henry William's wife "Maryanne" started the first school in Paihia.

The Maori Constable Association was started in the courthouse we were in, in 1862.

Queen Victoria was called "Queen Wikitoria" in Te Reo Maori.

Queen Victoria was the god mother to a maori child who was born in England, when his parents travelled there.

The first school in New Zealand was started by Samuel Marsden outside of Kerikeri (Marsden cross).

Some of the students dressed up in the clothes that were worn more than one hundred years ago. We learnt that people did not change their clothes every day like we do.

Koa drove one of the old tractors.

Easter Egg Hunt

Today we had an Easter Egg hunt. The Easter Bunny left counters with letters on. We had to find the counter with the first letter of our name.

We made Easter baskets for our Easter egg hunt.
