Matariki trip to the Treaty Grounds

The lovely people who work at the Waitangi Treaty Grounds invited us to take part in their Matariki learning week.
Freedom and Karaitiana after we had learnt about our beautiful waka (Ngatokimatawhaorua).

Whaea Shari teaching us about how to plant native trees.

Freedom

There are signs in the bush to show us the planting Paihia School pupils have done each year.

This year's Paihia School sign.

It was a beautiful, sunny day.

Singing our waiata after our shared kai.

Health (learning about healthy eating)

Learning about healthy kai with Whaea Gina:

Whaea Gina taught us about the four main food groups (fruits and vegetables, milk and milk products, grain foods, protein).

We learnt that it is important to eat a variety of foods and a variety of colours (e.g red - beetroot, yellow - corn).

Rainy day worm

Rainy Days

It is a very rainy day today. Litia found a huge worm before school. We took a photo for Litia's writing book and then we returned the worm back to the garden. We talked about why worms come out on rainy days.

Letter Work: Nanny Poem

Nanny
(our poem of the week)

Freedom loved our poem this week. He bought his precious
kete from home to show us. His Nan made this kete.
Thank you for sharing Freedom.

Nanny
Nanny weaves flax.
Over one, under one,
Criss cross, criss cross.
Under one, over one,
Zig zag, zig zag.
Snip snap, snip snap –
My new schoolbag.

We have been learning to point to words when we read. This helps us to identify and learn words. Here are Eden and Anaya.
